The Bridge

We recently built a decorative arched bridge for one of our customers. Starting with a stack of locally harvested and milled Eastern Red Cedar, we began to fabricate the various components.  The bridge dimensions were determined by working from a picture of what the final product should look like, a few sketches that we made, and site conditions.  Some of the pieces were created in our millwork shop, and some were site-built.  After making bending forms to the correct size, we laminated strips of the cedar together, creating the arches that support the bridge.

The decking is composite material made by Evergrain, and was chosen for its durability and appearance.  The balusters are copper, and the remaining materials are cedar.  Local cedar is naturally weather resistant, and is one of our favorite wood species to use for outdoor projects.
