We have been performing exterior renovations on a house in the city, circa 1912, including column repairs. One of the columns had been home to a honeybee hive for many years, and had deteriorated to the point that its weight bearing capacity was in question. The homeowner arranged for a beekeeper to extract the bees and move them to another location. He estimates that there were 30,000+ bees!
After the bees were gone and the honey harvested, we began replacing the column and the column base. We are also replacing other column bases and one of the original plaster capitals.
